Preparing Achievers for Tomorrow (PAT)

Since 2012, SSG R&E has provided evaluation technical assistance to over 40 Los Angeles County youth development organizations through the Preparing Achievers for Tomorrow (PAT) Initiative funded by the California Community Foundation.  In the final year (2016-2017) of this 5-year initiative, SSG R&E will continue to provide assistance to grantees that will strengthen their ability to conduct an evaluation of their youth development programs and report the results to CCF, as well as use the information gathered for program improvement and communicating with stakeholders, such as funders and donors. Through individualized technical assistance during site visits and phone calls, opportunities for peer learning through workshops and other events, and a dedicated data validation meeting to discuss findings, SSG R&E will support the PAT grantees to incorporate evaluation into their work.

Background

Preparing Achievers for Tomorrow (PAT) is a five-year initiative launched in 2011 by the California Community Foundation (CCF). Funded by a $12.5 million legacy gift from an anonymous donor, the PAT Initiative seeks to improve opportunities for youth in South Los Angeles and the South Bay by improving academic achievement and social emotional development through sports, arts, and other recreational programs. CCF, through its PAT Initiative, is interested in learning about the successes and challenges of PAT grantees in incorporating evaluation in their work. CCF is also interested in building grantee’s capacity to do meaningful program evaluation not only for this initiative, but also for other projects.
